IMEI & Serial Number Basics
Check Phone Warranty Across Major Brands with IMEI or Serial
A quick map to official warranty channels — useful before you buy or accept a trade-in.
Warranty check vs IMEI check
Checking an IMEI verifies the device identifier. Checking warranty uses that identifier to see remaining service coverage. They usually go together, but a valid IMEI does not prove the device is still under warranty.
For Apple, see also Apple warranty check and iPhone IMEI check.
Prepare the correct IMEI or serial number
A cellular phone has an IMEI, and a dual-SIM model may have two. Its serial number is normally available on the About page and on the original box. Copy the identifier directly where possible so that you do not confuse the digit zero with the letter O or omit a character.
Do not post a complete identifier in a public comment or listing. Keep it private and use it only for the warranty check or support request.
Choose the official channel for each brand
- Apple: use Check Coverage with the serial number for an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or AirPods.
- Samsung: use the electronic warranty check with the requested IMEI or serial number.
- OPPO: open the official Warranty Check page.
- Xiaomi: use Product Authentication.
- vivo: use the official IMEI authentication page.
- realme: check the device on the official phone warranty page.
- Sony: use the official electronic warranty lookup.
- Huawei: open the official warranty query.
- Google Pixel: start with Google's repair and warranty service.
- Nokia/HMD: use HMD's IMEI warranty checker.
- ASUS: use the official warranty status inquiry.
Availability and accepted identifiers can vary by sales region.
How to read a warranty result
Common fields include the model, activation or purchase date, and coverage expiration date. A “not found” result does not automatically mean that a phone is counterfeit. The identifier may be mistyped, the device may come from another region, dealer data may not have synchronized, or the form may require a serial number instead of an IMEI.
If the returned model does not match the phone, compare the number shown by the device with the box and purchase record, then ask the manufacturer to verify the discrepancy before buying or accepting the unit.
When to contact the manufacturer
Contact official support when the lookup will not accept a confirmed identifier, the coverage date conflicts with the invoice, an imported device does not appear in your local system, or you need service-history information. Depending on the brand's policy, a valid proof of purchase may allow the recorded purchase date to be corrected.
Remember that warranty status is not a complete device inspection. Account locks, replaced parts, battery health, carrier restrictions, and physical condition require separate checks.
Real-world check example
When buying used or receiving a lot, put this term on your checklist: get the right code → read Coverage → match the model → then pay. See also IMEI vs serial and by-model checks.
If you live in spreadsheets, pair this with the Batch IMEI Checker for Excel.
A common mistake is calling a device “clean” just because Coverage returns OK. Coverage does not replace an on-device Activation Lock check, and it does not report carrier blacklists. Separate layers reduce the risk of taking unsellable units.
Summary & next steps
Knowing the term prevents wrong conclusions from a single Coverage line. Return to the full glossary, browse comparisons, or open BatchIMEI for bulk checks.
Suggested reading order: glossary basics → concept comparisons → by-model guides → Excel workflows for stores. Each step answers a different buyer or intake question.
Frequently asked questions
Why can warranty information differ by country?
Coverage rules, sales records, and accepted identifiers vary by market. Use the region where the phone was originally sold, then contact the manufacturer if the local lookup still cannot find it.
Is an IMEI more accurate than a serial number?
Neither is universally better. Use the identifier requested by the manufacturer and compare both when the device and official process provide them.
What should I do if the warranty lookup finds no data?
Check the IMEI or serial number for typing errors, select the correct sales region, and contact the manufacturer with proof of purchase if the result is still blank.
Does BatchIMEI display this term?
BatchIMEI returns activation/warranty fields by serial. This glossary entry helps you read those fields and know what Coverage does not cover (e.g. iCloud Lock).
