What Is a Replacement Device?

When repair is not practical or under warranty/AppleCare policy, Apple may issue a replacement (new or equivalent). The old unit is returned; the new one has its own serial number.

Always check Coverage on the new serial. Remaining coverage is typically the remainder of the prior warranty or a market-specific minimum — do not assume every day from the old unit carries over.

1. Record the new serial from the box / About screen.
2. Look it up on Check Coverage immediately.
3. Restore data from a backup.
4. Update the serial in your inventory system if you are a business.
